StrategyArk’s Leadership Hierarchy of Needs

Perspectives

Leaders require frameworks and tools to expand the perspectives of everyone around them, fostering more creative thinking, more possibilities and better alignment.

Roles

Leaders must evolve from their roots as an individual contributor to serve as a catalyst, expand perspectives and create operational unleash talent, excellence

Strengths

Leaders must evaluate and comprehend their individual and collective team member’s strengths and weaknesses, while creating opportunities for skill expansion.

Mind

leaders must understand how their mind and body impact each other in the most stressful and complex situations, continuously expanding their emotional intelligence.

Expanding the Mind

At the base of the hierarchy lies the mind, where leaders cultivate self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and mental clarity.

This Includes expanding awareness about:

  • The “ITs” – common mind-body roadblocks that can get in everyone’s way: e.g., stress responses, protectors, and emotional triggers that disrupt logic.
  • The “OOPs” – common mistakes people make when influenced by their IT’s: e.g., emotion-driven decisions, impulsive reactions, and a narrow inward focus.
  • The “OPPs” – opportunities for higher levels of awareness and emotional intelligence: e.g,. mindfulness, reframing, and helping others to help themselves

Expanding Strengths

The second level focuses on identifying and leveraging strengths;
the leader’s individual strengths, the unique strengths of their
team members and the collective strengths of the team as a whole.

This Includes expanding awareness about:

  • Individual Strengths – expanding knowledge about their own talents, skills, and
gaps. Leaders align their personal strengths with goals to maximize impact.
  • Team Members’ Strengths – helping each team member to unlock their potential,
while addressing weaknesses key to their success.
  • Collective Team Strengths – building the team’s combined capabilities by
identifying gaps or areas where additional skills are needed for success.

Expanding Roles

The third level centers on leadership roles, where leaders define their identity by embodying four critical roles that drive team success and organizational growth.

This Includes expanding their ability to:

  • Serve as the Catalyst – ignite momentum by fostering trust, creating a shared vision,
and inspiring teams to take action toward meaningful goals.
  • Unleash the Talent – leaders empower individuals by recognizing their strengths, providing opportunities for growth, and removing barriers to success.
  • Expand Perspectives – leaders use frameworks to zoom out, challenge assumptions and encourage diverse viewpoints, fostering creativity, innovation, and alignment.
  • Create Operational Excellence: Leaders ensure systems and processes are optimized for efficiency while maintaining accountability and delivering results.

Expanding Perspectives

The final level centers on leader’s ability to use frameworks to broaden their own worldview and foster an environment where superiors, peers, and employees think beyond conventional boundaries.

This Includes expanding their use of frameworks to facilitate:

  • Strategic Direction – using frameworks to help define long-term goals, prioritize
initiatives, and align teams with organizational vision and roadmaps.
  • Solution Architectures – using proven models to design innovative solutions that address complex challenges while ensuring scalability and sustainability.
  • Roles and Responsibilities – using frameworks to clarify roles and expectations that ensure accountability and constructive collaboration across teams.
